The estate

The estate lies in the municipality of Polpenazze del Garda (Brescia), at Picedo, in the area known as Valtenesi, a land of glacial moraine hills, south-west of Lake Garda’s Brescian shore. In the heart of Brescia’s traditional wine-growing area, it enjoys a mild climate. The estate covers a total of 35 hectares: 11 hectares of vineyards and 5 of olive groves. The rest is arable land, cultivated with a rotation of Alfalfa, wheat and barley.

Sincette and Zalte

They all enjoy good exposure and ventilation and are cultivated on the single Guyot system (just one vine stock), with a grape yield which does not over-strain the vines. Harvesting is by hand.

Grape varieties. Red, for the most part: groppello gentile, marzemino, barbera, merlot, sangiovese and cabernet sauvignon; white: chardonnay.

The olive grove

Most of the olives are planted to surround and “shelter” the farmhouse. A lovely sight.

There are about 1300 trees of three cultivated varieties: casaliva, moraiolo and leccino. The olives (only the healthy ones) are gathered by hand.

The wine cellar

Since most of the key work is done in the vineyard, the well-equipped, well-organised cellar is simply the place where the grapes are taken through the process from fermentation to the bottle, with no interference with their natural character and with the sole concern to ensure that the processes are correct and carried out properly.

The Brunori family fall in love with Valtenesi, a small district of glacial hills west of Lake Garda, and buy the farm that is now the company’s headquarters, painstakingly restoring it.

At the same time, they build the cellar entirely underground in order to preserve the aesthetic appearance of the building and fit in with the landscape.

This phase involves the consultancy of the wine expert Giorgio Grai, who sets up the cellar and the vinification cycles.

The estate engages Dr. Franco Bernabei as a wine expert and he completely reschedules the vinification cycles.

Agronomic expertise is provided by Dr. Stefano Chioccoli, who decides to completely rearrange the vineyards in order to obtain grapes of greater quality.

Change of company name: from ‘Cascina La Pertica’ to ‘Le Sincette’.

‘Le Sincette’ is the name of the plots on which the vineyards and olive groves are cultivated.

It is individual and unmistakable, bearing positive connotations through the reference to something precious and gracious.

The initials (LS) are represented by a calligraphic monogram inspired by the movement of blades of grass. It resonates with the notion of naturalness, authenticity and craftsmanship.

The symbol of the 15 moons recalls the lunar phases, so important for the natural cycles and processes, both on the vine and in the cellar.

“Fifteen is the number that corresponds to the full month because in a synodic month with 29 days, the fifteenth is the night of the full moon. In ancient matriarchal societies that worshipped this heavenly body as their main deity, the lunar light in all its splendour was celebrated and therefore the fifteenth day of each month was proclaimed sacred. So it was that the number 15 itself came to be venerated. For the Sumerians and the Babylonians, it was the name of the Queen of the Sky, Inanna (Isthar).”

We are a small company on the shores of Lake Garda and thanks to our daily hard work and nature’s gifts, we seek to produce a unique wine, bestowing wonderful sensations on those who know how to respect nature and its rhythms, and who love quality of life, simplicity and balance.

By becoming ambassadors of Made in Italy Biodynamics, consumers can, together with us, get to know biodynamics and the philosophy for life that it expresses.

A very special way of life, tending and working the land. The key concept is that of the “closed cycle”, a system under which everything the land needs is produced on the estate. Here, agriculture is an act of friendship between nature and man. An organism only functions properly when all the organs act in harmony.

In biodynamic farming, these organs are hedges, woods, compost and crop rotation. Man’s role is simply to control and coordinate the process, to increase and preserve the fertility of the land. This “new” agriculture was inspired by the Austrian, Rudolf Steiner (1861-1925).

There are three basic principles:
1) Maintaining the fertility of the land.
2) Ensuring plants are healthy so that they can withstand diseases.
3) Producing top quality foods.

The association

Biodynamic agriculture is described as a way of farming without chemical fertilisers or poisons. This is true. However, it also involves a global awareness of the planet and its relationship to the cosmos, so as to encourage the responsible use of natural forces.

It has these three fundamental expressions:
a) Release into the soil of the natural nutrients that plants need.
b) Inhalation from the atmosphere to the soil by the plants.
c) Respect for the self-regulating processes within all living beings.
